How to Sell Your Construction Equipment Online in South Africa (and Get a Fair Price)
MyTradeMarket
If you've got equipment sitting idle, it's costing you money in storage and depreciation. Here is how to sell it properly.
1. Work out a realistic price
Search for the same make, model and year and note what comparable machines are listed at. Price within that range. If you want a quick sale, go slightly under. Adjust for hours, condition and service history.
2. Take good photos
Shoot in daylight, from every side. Include the engine bay, tyres or tracks, the cab, the hour meter and the serial plate. Buyers trust listings with plenty of honest photos, including photos of the damage.
3. Write a listing that answers questions up front
Include make, model, year, hours, condition, location, what's included, and why you're selling. Mention any faults. It saves time and filters out time wasters.
4. Have your documents ready
Proof of ownership, service records and any invoices. Buyers who see these upfront close faster.
5. Be careful with buyers
Genuine buyers want to see the machine. Be cautious of anyone who offers to pay more than you asked, wants to send a courier without seeing it, or sends a proof of payment screenshot instead of money in your account. Only release the machine once the funds are cleared.
6. Agree the handover in writing
A short sale agreement with price, condition, date and "voetstoots" or warranty terms protects both sides.
You can list your equipment on MyTradeMarket and reach buyers who are specifically looking for construction and building equipment.
